ZIRCONIUM

What is Zirconia?

Zirconia is a white hard metal. It is one of the most preferred materials in dentistry because it is a very high fracture resistance and tissue-friendly material.

How to Apply Zirconium Coatings?

After the teeth are reduced a little, measurements are taken with sensitive impression materials and sent to the laboratory. In the laboratory, zirconium infrastructure and porcelain superstructure are produced in accordance with the requested colors and dimensions. After the production is completed, the zirconium coating is adapted to the tooth with rehearsals and is permanently bonded with special adhesives.

In Which Dental Treatments Is Zirconia Used?

It can be used in the construction of all veneer restorations on front and back teeth. Moreover;

  • In the treatment of advanced discoloration and hereditary discoloration in which positive results are not achieved even though methods such as teeth whitening are applied,
  • In cases where orthodontic treatment is not preferred, in the treatment of separated or slightly crowded or rotated teeth such as “diastema”,
  • In cases where old fillings whose color and structure have deteriorated need to be replaced,
  • In implant-supported prostheses to replace lost front and back group teeth,
  • It can be used to provide smile aesthetics.

What are the advantages of Zirconium Coatings?

  • Zirconia coatings are resistant to pressure like your own teeth and are resistant to cutting/chewing etc. can perform the functions easily.
  • In metal supported porcelain veneers, which is an old method; These veneers are obtained by stacking tooth-colored porcelain on metals. For this reason, the inner surface of the coatings consists of gray metal. This gray metal begins to become visible over time and causes gray/black discoloration at the gum edge.
  • Zirconia crowns, on the other hand, have a single piece structure and are the same color as the tooth and do not cause discoloration in the gums.
    By giving a transparency effect to the tips of zirconia coatings, an aesthetic appearance closest to nature can be achieved in accordance with the person’s own tooth structure.

Who can have zirconium application?

Zirconium coating can be applied at any age, following the eruption of permanent teeth. However, it is not recommended for those who are in the developmental period until the age of 18-20 and as gaps will be observed as a result of the growth of the jaw.
